How to hide/protect your WHOIS data with ID Protect

NOTE: ID Protect is not available for .us domains, due to a requirement by the US Government.

How does ID Protect work?
  • Shielding your private information
Your private contact information is not exposed. It is held in confidentiality and protected by the Domain Privacy Protection Service. Their contact information is displayed to provide you with the highest level of protection against spammers and identity theft.

  • Dynamic eMail System which stops spammers dead in their tracks
Without Privacy ID, spammers can obtain your email address from harvesting and then use it for spamming purposes and redistribution to marketing firms. Your email address can stay on file with various spammers and marketing firms for years. Due to the dynamic email system, the visible email address is constantly changing, so while it is being harvested and redistributed, it will change and the previous address will no longer work for the spammer. The Domain Privacy Protection Service secures and maintains your real email address on file so you receive important information regarding your domain.

  • Offering your complete control
You retain full legal ownership and control over your domain name. You can sell, renew, transfer and change settings to your domain name just the same as before. Your domain control panel provides you real-time access to easily manage your domain name.
How much does ID Protect cost?
The cost is $4.95 per year. While it may seem a bit expensive, QTH.com makes very little on this service. The balance goes to the domain registrar responsible for handling the protected communications for your domain.

How can I purchase ID Protect for my domain?

ID Protect FAQ
  • Q: How does ID Protect help reduce spam?
A: Due to the use of our dynamic email system, your visible email address is constantly changing, so while it is being harvested and redistributed, it will change and the previous address will no longer work for the spammer. Our Domain Privacy Protection Service secures and maintains your real email address on file so you receive important information regarding your domain.

  • Q: What if I need to prove ownership of a domain?
A: You have the ability to temporarily disable the ID Protect service through your domain control panel. Turn off the service and then ask the verifying party to confirm whois registration details. Once complete, you may turn the ID Protect service back on through your domain control panel.

  • Q: What if someone sends something to the mailing address?
A: For communications received which does not appear to be unsolicited commercial mail, the Domain Privacy Protection Service may either forward such communication to you or may attempt to communicate to you a scanned copy of a page of the communication. The Service may elect to not forward to you communications which appear to be unsolicited, or communications which appear to be from your having used the IDP Services as a general mail forwarding service.

  • Q: Why can't I use this service with my .us name?
A: .US has made a dramatic change in their policy saying (in part):
"The United States Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration ("NTIA") has recently completed its review of "proxy" or anonymous domain registration services by .us Accredited Registrars. At the conclusion of this review, NTIA directed NeuStar to phase out the offering of such services by Registrars or by any of its partners or resellers and to ensure that complete and accurate WHOIS data is provided for any existing registrations in .us."
Although we disagree with this policy, we will comply and will require our resellers and sub-resellers to make the necessary changes. Therefore, we will prohibit the offering of ID Protect to .US registrations. This policy ONLY applies to .US registrations.
